Proposed Powerline to Supply Port Washington Data Center

ATC is proposing an expansion and upgrade of their electric power lines that would include a new west-east 345-kV line to connect to the existing north-south transmission lines 1 ½ miles west of County Hwy Y.  The powerline route will require a wide corridor kept permanently clear of tall vegetation, destroying any natural habitat under the lines.  The “preferred” route in the proposal ATC has submitted would run just north of the Bog, crossing Hwy 33 at its junction with Birchwood Road.   That route would also run right through the Restoring Lands’ (formerly OWLT) Center Lane and County Line properties east of CoHy Y that have the highest quality Cedar swamp in our region, destroying that wetland.

FOCB would of course prefer that ATC use the “Alternate” route, which is an existing powerline corridor, or the “Preferred Contingent” line to the north which would not be close to the Bog and run through less wetland area in general.  Needless to say, property owners along the “Preferred Contingent” route strongly oppose that location.

The project is subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and there will be opportunities for the public to have input on the proposal during a public comment period.  Please look for updates on this project by visiting the following website: https://www.atcllc.com/project/ozaukee-county-distribution-interconnection/) You can also contact Zac Tretow with ATC Local Relations at (262)-506-6901 or ztretow@atcllc.com with additional questions.
