The Friends of the Cedarburg Bog (FOCB) Scholarship Fund was created in 2019 by a UW-Milwaukee alumni and FOCB Board member. The fund was created to assist UWM students with the additional course fees as these fees were not covered by financial aid. Over the past few years, the structure of the courses has changed but the content remains the same. These Natural History courses provide excellent content for aspiring students and professionals interested in our natural resources. They provide field experiences along with classroom content to expand the knowledge of attendees. There’s no better way to learn about our natural resources than to be out in the field at a unique habitat like the Cedarburg Bog!
This summer there will be nine Natural History Courses offered by the Saukville Field Station in a variety of topics. These include courses such as Field Herpetology, Sedges of Wisconsin, and Wetland Delineation. The FOCB are happy to offer this scholarship program again to provide financial assistance to students. We will also be expanding the awards to students who will be graduating in the Spring as these courses will help prepare them for their entrance into the professional realm. The scholarship is open to students outside of the UW-Milwaukee system. Those who are awarded the scholarship will be able to attend their desired courses for free. Awards will be announced to recipients by April 10, 2025.
The courses are open to all to attend, not just students. Anyone interested in learning more about the wonders of the natural world are encouraged to enroll. Each participant will receive 1.4 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for attending a workshop.
