Annual Membership Drive
Jim Reinartz, FOCB President
Many, I hope all of you will soon receive our annual appeal for 2027 membership in the Friends by letter or email. For 21 years, FOCB has provided stewardship, education, and public access to the Bog and the natural areas at the UWM Saukville Field Station. That work has been possible with the support of members. Membership is vitally important because it shows grantors and donors that we have community support for the work we do.
We are proud of that work. We present about 30 programs on a wide variety of topics each year. The Friends built, and continue to maintain, all public access to the Bog: Highway 33, Cedar Sauk Rd, and the Saukville Field Station’s heavily used boardwalk.
The Friends have raised grant funding and are actively controlling invasive buckthorn over 600 acres of the Bog, including 227 acres of buckthorn treated over the past three winters. We have also prevented five aggressive invasive plants, including teasels and wild parsnip, from spreading along roadways in a 28 mi2 area surrounding the Bog. We will continue to prevent that from happening in our Bog’s backyard.
These are just a few of the reasons to become a member of FOCB. When you receive the Friends’ appeal, please consider joining the Friends or renewing your membership in 2027. You can join online at https://bogfriends.org/donate-become-a-friend/
