Annual Membership Appeal

This fall we will make our annual appeal for membership. 2025 marks the 20th year of our organization, and we continue to be a volunteer organization devoted to the work of providing natural area stewardship, education, and public access to the Cedarburg Bog. Our membership fee ($25) has not changed since our founding, and our overhead continues to be low with only one paid administrative assistant. Everyone else, from officers to committee members, volunteer their time without compensation.
Since 2005, we have educated thousands of individuals about the Bog’s ecology, plant and animal communities, and continue that work in 2025 with 28 programs on a wide variety of topics. Our fall and winter hikes continue to be well attended, and we encourage you to attend the Fall Hike and Picnic on Sunday, October 5th, and the Winter Hike on Sunday, February 1st. Both these hikes are followed by a potluck and the opportunity to socialize with fellow Bog-lovers and FOCB members.
FOCB survives with donations from its members and grants from government agencies and private environmental organizations. While donations are important to us, our big-ticket items are funded by grants. A strong membership is vitally important in securing these grants because it shows community support for our endeavors. This support has allowed FOCB to obtain the grants necessary to remove buckthorn, the Bog’s worst invasive threat, from over 600 acres in the Bog. Recently, FOCB obtained large grants, with assistance from the Southeastern Wisconsin Invasive Species Consortium, to remove buckthorn from over 250 acres in the Bog.
