Join us for these Friends-sponsored events. Unless otherwise stated, walks meet at the UWM Field Station on Blue Goose Rd. Wading boots not needed; sandals not recommended.

Introduction to the Ferns
Sunday, September 9, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
What are ferns, and how and where do they grow? Naturalist Freda van den Broek will explain their natural history, structure, and identification. Meet at the north end of the Bog in the Hwy 33 parking lot. (No restrooms)
Out of the Ice – Gifts from the Glaciers
Saturday, September 22, 9:00 AM to noon
Learn about the glaciers that covered Wisconsin and the gifts they left behind. Join naturalist Jim Ellis to explore the glacial landforms that contain and surround the Cedarburg Bog.
Stargazing at the Bog
Friday, October 5, 7:30 PM
Please come for a delightful evening of stargazing with Jeff Setzer from the Northern Cross Science Foundation. If all is clear, we should be able to observe the planets Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars along with other celestial sights such as the Hercules Cluster, the Ring Nebula, and Andromeda Galaxy. Bring your binoculars!

FOCB Annual Picnic and Celebration of the Cedarburg Bog
Sunday, October 7, 1:00 – 7:00 pm
Join with the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Field Station in an afternoon celebratory experience entailing festive music, hikes, hay rides, a live reptile demonstration, pot luck dinner, and a camp fire.
Starting at 1:00 pm, hike, hayride, music and reptile and amphibian display. Eat at 5:30 pm. 6:30 pm. ca
mpfire and FOCB annual meeting. The Friends of the Cedarburg Bog will supply brats, burgers and beverages; Please bring a dessert or side dish to share.
Come for the walk, the potluck or both!

Bird banding has been part of research and education for decades in the Cedarburg Bog. Join the
Friends of the Bog Board President Tim Vargo and the Urban Ecology Center banding team and witness first-hand the ins and outs of bird banding and the conservation importance of banding birds. Note: This event is weather dependent and will be cancelled in case of rain, temperature extremes, or high winds.

Join Mary Holleback, John O'Donnell, Nathaniel Reinartz and Tom Uttech as they search along the roads around the Field Station for resident and migratory owls. Bring binoculars and a small flashlight.
